Don’t Forget About Mental Health

“Make sure your eat your veggies! Take your vitamins! Get enough exercise!”

I think we can all agree that these are common phrases children hear while growing up. American society has worked to teach many generations the importance of physical health. With new active initiatives and mandatory check-ups, physical health has become a priority for many. So what about the other side of the body, emotional and mental side of health? In today’s society mental health is often swept under the rug. With warning signs being pushed off as not enough sleep or too much stress, it can be easy to forgot about the necessary maintenance that mental health requires.

The Campaign to Change Direction is working to make mental health awareness a priority in the United States. The movement started after the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. As Americans, we must work to change our mentality towards mental health. It is too often that mental health warning signs go unseen. Many people are unable to see the signs of mental health struggles even though the resources are there. We need to pay attention to mental health in ourselves and those we care about. Start the conversation.

I am calling on you to increase your knowledge about mental health awareness. Below are some resources to utilize and share. Please sign the campaign to change–it only takes two minutes to commit to this lifesaving cause, whether you sign a pledge personally or with an organization. Text SIGNS to 741741 for 24/7, anonymous, free crisis counseling. Review the resources to get the help needed.
