Take a Chance on Yourself

By Isaac Reynoso

As I made the decision to transfer universities, I based a lot of my criteria on what Ball State had to offer. The strong academics coupled with the flourishing organizations assured me that I was making the right decision. During my first semester at Ball State I sought out PRSSA because I knew it would be an asset in learning about the industry and meeting likeminded peers. However, PRSSA became a lot more than that. The environment PRSSA creates is a place where people are allowed to flourish and are encouraged through their mistakes. I decided that I wasn’t going to become another face in the crowd during our meetings. I took a chance and pursued leadership positions and devoted my time to projects that were taking place within the organization. The success that I had achieved gave me the confidence to evaluate the direction I want my career and academics to go toward.

If I could achieve the goals I set for myself here, could I aim higher?

The answer is yes.

I was never one of those people who could be satisfied staying in the same place for a long time. I decided to take the direction of my career to a goal that I didn’t think was possible.

I discovered that I want to ultimately pursue career endeavors abroad. Through this discovery I also discovered the enjoyment of surrounding myself in new environments just to learn about other people. Although the ideology of pursing endeavors abroad may seem out of context from the topic of PRSSA — it seems natural to me how an amazing organization can lead you in the right direction. The knowledge gained from being a member of an amazing organization such as PRSSA goes beyond the classroom and beyond the boundaries I set for myself. I hope that prospective and returning members allow the organization to challenge them in a way that they are able to reflect and take a chance on themselves to pursue new endeavors.
